BBC Lighting Workshop

On friday the 14th of november we attended a lighting workshop at the BBC studios. We worked with two people, the first a female director and a lighting director. They instructed a lighting workshop in which we was taught the different lighting positions and the different types of lights, like filter lights, key lights, soft light etc, and the positions back lighting, top lighting,we were taught the moods lighting could create and how it important it was within film making. We watched a series of videos in which the director  sampled her work and talked about the lighting used in scenes and what it created and suggested within the text.

We were finally split into four groups and were told we had to create videos using different lighting. My group focused on natural lighting as we created a news report on children in need as we found out it corresponded with the actual day it happened.

My group got the topic of real life and we had to base our news report on something of real life and use natural lighting within our filmed sequence. My group chose to do a report on children in need  as that was what the theme of the studios was at the time. We went out and around the studios giving interviews and filming aspects of the children in need posters and advertisements, when filming outside we only used a reflector which was used to give the presenter which was in this case Alex a glow, as he looked pale and extremely light without it. When we return to the studios we will edit what we filmed to create a news sequence.
